A Walk Among the Horses ... Part Three

Despite a heat index of over 100 today, we ventured out in the cooler evening weather to view ten more horses. This time we started on East High Street near the post office, walked down newly-reopened Limestone Street and over to Dudley Square. I love this South Hill neighborhood where George and I rented an apartment from 1982 to 1987, and it was fun to show Alec some of the houses dating back to the early 1800s.

Interestingly, the two artists I actually know had their horses practically right next to one another. This one is by a friend from church who is battling cancer (UPDATE: Lida died in 2012 and will be very much missed by her husband, three children, and many friends):

And this is by my neighbor, Kathy Johnson, who had a horse in the 2000 Horse Mania as well:

It took me a while to figure out what "1 hp" meant!

These horses at Dudley Square were all done by artists from our sister cities ... in order of appearance, Newmarket, England; Deauville, France; Shinhidaka, Japan; and (very dark because this horse was inside and the building was not well-lit) County Kildare, Ireland:

Normandy
Nihon no Haru (Spring in Japan)

  1. How fun! So unusual, yet creative and playful! They're all lovely. I love color, lots of it, but my favorite horse? The brick horse!
