A Walk Among the Horses ... Part Six

As our remaining horses become more far-flung, this project is more about driving and less about walking. Nonetheless, Alec and I did our share of walking with the first three horses today, which are all at the Bluegrass Airport. One was inside, but the other two were at entrances to the airport, which required walking through grassy areas not really intended for pedestrians.

This horse was inside the airport terminal:

This horse celebrates our Sister Cities, including Deauville and its neighboring town of Falaise, where Caroline had a summer internship last year.

Later today, we drove over to the vicinity around the University of Kentucky to "catch" four more horses.

Our count now is up to 78 horses ... we only have four more horses left to see!

A Walk Among the Horses ... Part Five

Driving around Lexington in search of horses probably isn't everyone's idea of a fun Saturday night activity, but that's what Alec and I did. We started first with a horse we had missed before on Vine Street, maybe because it's dark in color (although it is wired to generate its own light inside) and raised up off street level.

Day Star

This horse was in the Woodward Heights neighborhood:

It's Rocking Lexington

One of my very favorites ... this horse looks good enough to eat, and it's appropriately situated across from Wine + Market, where they sell arguably the best baguettes in town.

Lady Godiva's Horse

But, so far, I think this one is my all-round favorite because the colors are just beautiful. And, it's in front of one of my favorite restaurants, Jonathan's at Gratz Park Inn ... which would make a great excuse to eat out there more often :)

And I like the way the horse seems to be peeking out as you're walking down the street!

This horse is at Sayre School:

We had to hunt around for these two horses, which are located at the "Isaac Murphy Memorial Garden" ... basically just a field in an "up and coming" (but right now, a bit sketchy) neighborhood near downtown. The garden has a big sign saying that it's going to be an "art garden" ... I guess the horses are the first temporary exhibits.

I was surprised to find this horse in front of the Walton Avenue office of our former kitchen designer.

The Industrial Evolution

And this horse is in front of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. In 2000, the "Mirrored Horse," one of the kids' favorites, was placed here:

And, finally, I took advantage of the relatively little traffic to cross Richmond Road to photograph this horse:

Old Lexington

So ... that leaves only eleven horses left on our quest!

A Walk Among the Horses ... Part Four

Thankfully, we are experiencing cooler weather in the Bluegrass, at least for a day or two. Despite spending the day at the Newport Aquarium, I was up for an early evening walk with Alec to nab as many horses as we could. Weather and lighting conditions being nearly ideal, we ended up visiting almost all the central downtown horses, starting at George's office building (the big blue building) and making a loop from Phoenix Park to Triangle Park and back.

The first two horses were in the courthouse square:

The next two horses are not part of the "official" 82 ... but instead are two of the seven full-size horses painted by local high schools. These are placed at various libraries throughout town, with these two being in front of the Central Library.

Now back to the official 82:

So after that marathon session, what's our tally? We've visited/photographed a whooping 61 horses and have only 21 left! However, these will require more effort, as we've now exhausted almost all the "downtown" horses. The others are more spread out, with some even on the far edges of Fayette County!
