A Walk Among the Horses ... Part One

My wonderful community of Lexington, KY, in the heart of the Bluegrass, is currently sponsoring its second "Horse Mania" event. The first was in 2000, when my kids were ages 7, 10, and 12, and we really fell in love with all the painted horses. At the end of the event, close to Christmas time, all the horses were gathered into a big tent out at the Kentucky Horse Park to be auctioned off and I remember being so sad ... it was like saying "goodbye" to some old friends. There are a few of the 2000 horses still hanging around town, but we were thrilled when we learned that we'd be getting a whole new herd this year!

During this second Horse Mania event, in honor of the World Equestrian Games that are being held here this fall, the horses are concentrated more in the downtown area. Alec and I have a goal of visiting (and photographing) all 82 horses! However, we don't want to get overwhelmed with too many horses at one time, so this weekend we concentrated on these, which I'm going to show in the order that we saw them:

The Blue Grass Champ
